Easter Roads: Bikepacking Sardinia

WORDS: FEDERICO DAMIANI // ENOUGH CYCLING COLLECTIVE

“Natale con i tuoi, Pasqua con chi vuoi” is an Italian saying that reflects how, in Italian culture, Christmas is a sacred time reserved for family, while Easter is more of a work break that can easily be spent with friends doing what we love most.

So it’s no surprise that the Enough girls decided to spend these holidays together.

First, to get to know each other better—since meeting only for races or organized activities doesn’t leave much room to truly connect.

And second, to discover a new land that none of them had ever visited before.

Sardinia was, in many ways, an obvious choice: a bit of warmth, adventure, and good food in spring.

It’s an island many associate with beaches and sea, but it offers so much more if you’re willing to be carried by the journey and immerse yourself in its local culture and traditions.

To do that, Enough relied on the crew from Transichnusa—a group of local cyclists who know the island like the back of their hand and organize Shardana, a 1000 km bikepacking event held in May.

Massimo and his teammates shared a preview of the route with Asja, Sarah, Lydia, and Luise.

The result was a 450 km bikepacking trip and a holiday summed up in this video.

"Although it was physically exhausting, I feel like mentally it’s really nice, because when you are riding all day, you don’t really think about anything else except ‘Ok, where I’m gonna get more water, where I’m gonna get more food’, and you get to enjoy the moment and be present. It’s a good contrast to racing all the time, which is totally different. It’s kind of such a simple life. It feels very primal in some ways because you just enjoy nature, survive, and get through the day. The hot, hard, and long days. I enjoyed it a lot".

We decided to go bikepacking because we live far apart and wanted a trip with friends, to remind ourselves how nice it is to ride without stress, just to dioscver new places and cultures.
