Got it in one - Turning a Helmet into a Work of Art
WORDS: FEDERICO DAMIANI // ENOUGH CYCLING COLLECTIVE

It’s one thing to decide you want a custom helmet, contact a supplier, ask for a quote and wait for the finished product to arrive. It’s something completely different to build it together, spending a few hours in the workshop of an old friend, using the project as an excuse to catch up, share a meal and see where life has taken each other.

Tony Spray is a craftsman based in Treviso, Italy, specialising in custom paintwork for bicycle frames. If you follow Enough, chances are you’ve already seen him somewhere along the way - probably on one of our adventures around the world, always wearing a KASK helmet.

When KASK told us about the idea behind this collaboration, we basically handed them a blank canvas (and a blank helmet) and let the process unfold naturally, curious to see where it would lead.

Tony and Enough go back a long way. Long before he painted the Collective’s first bikes in 2021, they were already riding together, climbing together and sharing plenty of moments both on and off the bike.

Because before being a craftsman, Tony is a cyclist who has experienced pretty much every side of the sport: from competitive road racing to cyclocross, from long-distance randonnées to today’s gravel scene. He’s been riding since he was six years old, and he’s never really stopped.

Along the way he realised, like many do, that becoming a professional athlete isn’t a path that works out for everyone. So he rolled up his sleeves, started from scratch and taught himself a completely new trade.

When it came to the Enough project, it was a genuine case of Got it in one. The initial brief was intentionally loose and evolved naturally through conversations in the workshop.

More importantly, the painting technique itself had never been used before. The Collective wanted to bring together this year’s colours - silver and purple - with natural elements inspired by the places where we spend most of our time riding and exploring.

The result is a stencil made from real leaves, painted and layered onto the helmet to create a finish that feels distinctive, organic and impossible to reproduce exactly the same way twice. Bold enough to stand out, yet deeply rooted in nature.

This wasn’t a product commissioned from a supplier. It was two days spent working side by side, sharing tools, conversations and lunch around the same table - the way things happen every day inside the small Tony Spray family.

It became an opportunity for Tony to open up about his approach to craftsmanship, the values that drive his work and the story that brought him here.

He also spoke honestly about his concerns for the future and about how difficult it is to keep a craft like this alive in a world where fewer and fewer people dream of following the same path.

You can discover Tony’s story and follow the entire making of the helmet in the documentary Got it in one below or on KASK's YouTube Channel.
