How to choose your Aero Helmet
Choosing the right aero helmet is essential for the safety and performance of any time-trialist, triathlete, road cyclist, or track rider.
How well a helmet performs depends a lot on the shape and length of its tail. Longer tails lie flat against your back providing enhanced aerodynamics, however, if you don’t keep your head up or maintain a flat back while riding, the aerodynamic advantages can quickly become disadvantages, and a shorter-tailed solution might be more suitable.
The range of aero helmets on offer can make choosing the right choice seem daunting, so to simplify the process, we’ve created this guide to our aero cycling range to help you find the best helmet for your needs.
MISTRAL // Mid-tail, versatile design
Frequently spotted on the heads of INEOS Grenadiers during races against the clock, the Mistral features a mid-tail design that also ensures optimal performance for triathletes and track riders. The Mistral cleverly conceals six front openings, and two at the rear, to offer optimal ventilation whilst retaining its aero properties. Further carefully considered details such as the 3D dry padding, a self-adjusting lateral divider, faux-leather chinstrap, and innovative magnetic visor attachment also provide comfort and performance in equal measure.
MistralMISTRAL LW // Enhanced airflow deflection
The Mistral LW is the sibling of the Mistral. The LW is a reference to the two ‘Lateral Wings’ that have been added to the outer shell, further enhancing airflow deflection in the shoulder area. As with the Mistral, this uniquely designed, lightweight helmet has been wind tunnel tested to cut through the air with ease whilst also offering good ventilation. Both Mistral and Mistral LW are compatible with Silver Mirror and Clear magnetic visors, as well as with the Aero Pro Visor and Aero Pro Visor 2.0.
MISTRAL LWBAMBINO PRO // Unmistakable short-tail design
The short-tailed Bambino Pro has an unmistakable design that is incredibly aerodynamic in any head position. The six micro vents in the front, and four in the back, are connected via an internal air duct system which keeps the rider cool during time trials, triathlons, and track races. The 3D dry padding meanwhile, utilizes a multi-layer, open cell construction to further enhance comfort and performance, while the integrated visor can be easily attached and detached using magnets whilst riding.
BAMBINO PROBAMBINO PRO EVO // Extreme Aerodynamics
The Bambino Pro Evo is another common sight during elite competition. This elongated helmet takes aerodynamics to the extreme, fitting to the athlete’s body whilst smoothing airflow around its outer shell to provide maximum performance. The long tail improves aerodynamics, as long as you maintain a flat back and a steady position while riding. The Bambino Pro and Bambino Pro Evo are both fully compatible with Silver Mirror and Clear magnetic visors, along with the Aero Pro Visor and Aero Pro Visor 2.0.
BAMBINO PRO EVONIRVANA // Aero Perfection
The Nirvana is our newest aero helmet, engineered for road and track cyclists seeking the very highest performance. Its sleek design and internal channeling ensure minimal drag, superior ventilation, and optimal comfort. Designed using innovative software to conduct CFD (computational fluid dynamics) simulations, the Nirvana offers 35% less drag and 19% better ventilation than other helmets in its class. It also features Multipod, an innovative 3D-printed internal padding, engineered by KASK.
NIRVANAUTOPIA Y // Ventilation and Aerodynamics combined
Building on the success of the original Utopia, the Utopia Y pushes the boundaries of aerodynamics and ventilation even further and is designed for elite road cyclists who prioritize speed. The helmet’s distinctive design is ultra-efficient, and as well as maximizing airflow whilst minimizing drag, it features the OCTOFIT+ retention system and Resistex Carbon padding to guarantee a comfortable, stable and breathable fit.
Utopia yBELUGA // Versatile functionality
The Beluga takes much of its aerodynamic design from our premium Bambino Pro Evo, but with its shorter tail, it minimizes wind resistance and is ideal for riders less accustomed to maintaining a static position while competing. Ventilation is achieved by six micro air intakes at the front, and four at the rear, connected by internal air ducts. Its multilayer construction ensures maximum comfort while the CoolMax technology optimizes breathability and sweat absorption.
BELUGAWhilst every KASK aero helmet has its own unique characteristics, each one has passed the KASK Rotational Impact WG11 Test which we created to ensure our protection far exceeds international norms. Find out more about the test HERE.
We recommend replacing your helmet approximately every three years because over time its capacity for protection decreases due to the aging of the materials.
After any violent impact, even if no damage is visible, the helmet should be replaced because its capacity to absorb further impact could be impaired.
